Final Project

When I first thought about this project i wanted to document the process of making graffiti or the journey to a graffiti spot. I went looking for spots. Most of them werent really what i was looking for. So then i looked online to see where some good spots were to go. I found the old Polaris Amphitheater. However it was closed and was chained up with no trespassing signs all over so I decided i didnt want to get arrested, since its the only class rule. Then I decided to take picture on my way home from class one day since it was a nice day outside. At first i struggled to get good pictures, they were mostly of either the ground or the sky and got no one i was aiming for. I just kept taking pictures through a few days and just tried to see what feels right for aiming the shot. I finally got it down i just barley took my phone out of my pocket and snapped the picture. i had some very interesting ones and some that were just a huge blur. I liked how I got some of the same people in my pictures. My favorites though are of how close we get to so many people everyday without really realizing it. Some of days i was taking pictures and i thought they noticed my taking pictures and got nervous. I took the pictures of the same route for a few days and only really noticed one person who was in multiple pictures on different days. This was a fun process to do and it was very satisfying to see how my pictures turned out when i got home from a day of classes.

To me these pictures pretty much sum up my days at OSU. No matter where you go you always see people whether you know them or not. People will walk past you without even giving you the time of day to say "Hi" or look at you. I guess its not just here though either, no matter where you go now people arent polite or friendly anymore. Once I took these pictures i also so how many people are just walking through campus and I really have never thought about it before. We come into contact with so many people and we have no idea. I was imaging if a few of the people i walked passed was sick and once decided to cough into the air and get someone else sick, then the person who walked through the cough most likely would catch the bug and then possibly continue the cycle and get tons of people sick. This project really showed me how large the OSU campus is to me and its filled with people, and I only took pictures on my way to class. I can only imagine how a huge city would look or even a different country like India or China would look like.

MP5 To Remove

This lamp is what I do my homework under nearly everyday. I sit at my table with my books and computer and do my days work. Im use it so much I rarely remember how much it costs, $200. To remove this lamp I tried to think of a different way to break it down and take each piece apart separately. The only problem I had doing this was with the legs. They dont come out they just retract in itself, since its a tripod design I could only do one leg with out it falling over. So once I removed the top light part I broke down the legs and then removed the tripod. After that I turned the light off and unplugged and took out the light bulb. Once I removed the light canister I tried to make it appear like it was still there by drawing around it in the carpet.

Its a bird. Its a plane. Its me.

Ever since I was a little kid I have always wanted to fly. As a kid I pretended to fly when playing around with friends or even by myself. I would swing on my stomach to feel like I was flying. But now since I'm older I still wish I could fly. I could go to places faster and save a lot more money than spending it on gas. I could go anywhere I wanted if it was just for a day or for a long time. Whenever I think of flying I think of Superman and how he looks flying through the air with his big red cape and his Superman suit. So for me I found a picture of me planking during the summer just fooling around at a sand volleyball tournament that my friends and I hold yearly. Then I isolated me and put a red cape I found from the internet to make me look like Superman. After I created myself flying I found the background image of people looking into the sky as if they saw me flying. With this project I wanted it to seem very cartoon-like because to me flying is not going to be possible the way I am doing it in the project. I'm flying with a cape on and have the super power to fly, which no human will ever have or get.

MP3 View 2

This sculpture is a representation of everything I think of myself as. I have everything from my favorite sports teams and sports to my family background with the England three lion crest and a Native American bird. It is in the shape of a crown because my family name means everything to me and I plan on carrying on the history of it. My piece is placed at the medical center because that is my aspiration to work at a hospital either as a pharmacist or a nurse.

First aid kit

To me my first aid kit is important because I am always getting injured no matter what. From playing sports to working. Its not a normal day if I don't do some sort of physical activity and have blood running down my arm or somewhere else. So this kit is very useful to me and thats why its important

Bump, set, spike

One of my favorite sports to play is volleyball. It is how I met most of my friends I have today. Senior year in high school after our graduation practice a few kids from my school went to play volleyball. I only knew a few kids who went but now they are all my good friends and we continue to play whenever we get time and where ever we can.

Wallet

I feel like everyone's wallet is meaningful to them in some way. It may just be a place where one stores money and cards or could be like me and have it store all their important things on them not only money and my plastic cards. Whenever I leave it at home I feel like I left part of me behind. I take this thing everywhere.

My Blanket

I use my blanket for everything. Whenever I am at home, I am either covering up with it or it wrapped around me. I got it as a gift from my brother once I decided to come to OSU.

Hats on hats on hats

These are just a few of my hats. I have quite a few hats and I have them organized neatly. I know what every single hat I own and which ones I wear more often than others.

My Computer

My computer is very prized to me. I use it almost all day everyday. If I'm not doing homework, I will be on it either reading news and sports or just looking around at random things.

iPhone

I love my iPhone. When they first came out I was a big hater on them. I had a Droid and swore against getting an iPhone. My Droid kept breaking and breaking and finally a few months ago I gave in and bought an iPhone and it has been the best decision of my life. I will never switch phones again.

Cadberry Buttons

This is my most favorite chocolate of all time. I first tasted them when my relatives from England brought them over for me when I was a kid. Ever since every time they come over to visit they bring me a ton of them. However they do not last long so I have to ration myself. This is my last bag of them.

The shoe

This may sound really weird for a guy but I love shoes, not only this one but all of my pair. This is just one of my favorite shoe. This is my Jordan FlyWade basketball shoe.

Micro Project 1

This is what I think about as my map to my class. This is very boring just like my walk to class in the morning. There is not much I walk past besides houses, kids, and cars. I did not put any of those on my map because almost everyone see them. So to me I walk this same route to this class. Almost every time and day I walk to any class there is a puddle on the sidewalk, it seems like rain or shine. Also I walk past a gas station with two subway signs on their board and I always get confused on why they have two. Also in the bottom right of my map is a key of things I think of when I think about the directions I'm heading. and finally there is a light horseshoe because that is where my walk ends for this class.

Kimmelman

I agreed with Kimmelman when he was explaining how important art is in everyday life. Without art our lives would be extraordinarily plain and boring. Everywhere you look there is some sort of art work, whether its buildings, signs, cars, clothes, everything you look at is artwork and influences our ideas every second of our lives. also whether we know it or not we make artwork everyday as well and it makes our lives bright and energetic, like is said in the introduction that "art can make living a daily masterpiece."

One thing that I do not really understand about this article is how he constantly references the book. Also to me, who is not anywhere near an artist, I got very confused when he used words and some references that I had no idea about. I had to look up several of his words usage.

Walker, Barrett

Walker's article had some great points in it however the one that caught my attention the most was how any idea can turn into a big idea. Small ideas such as who is going to win the national championship game is a small idea. But when you start to explain yourself it turns into a big idea. With these big ideas it causes everyone to become a critical thinker. Becoming a critical thinker brings great help to people such as students because it helps them in their daily activities at school. This big ideas help them answer questions in class, help talk with peers about the class, talk to the teacher about the subject matter, and allows everyone to interact with everyone.

One thing that I partly disagreed with in Walker's article is the whole big idea thing. To me it causes me to sometimes over think things that are really quite simple. When Walker lists the questions that should be asked in the classroom some of them may make it really hard to explain something as simple as theme in novel. Also some of the questions that should be asked are contradictory to me such as "be broad and umbrella-like" and then "be distinct and substantial".

Before I read this article by Barrett I had no clue how to explain connotation or denotation when I saw it. After reading this article it is easier for me to explain. Once looking at a piece of art work, an advertisement, or any source of media, connotation of the artwork is another meaning for what you see that normally is deeper thinking. Just like in the first example of the spaghetti ad the connotation of it was that the brand name "Panzani" makes the consumer feel like they are eating food that is very Italian. On the other hand, denotation is what is supposed to be the meaning expressed by what is seen.

One thing I did not like about this article was it was somewhat hard for me to follow because Barrett moved from idea to idea pretty fast to me. It took me a few times to read some parts here and there to really understand what he was trying to explain.

Monkey Zone Defense

The Cheese Monkeys to me was very confusing. I had to read it a few times before anything in it made sense. My favorite part about it was that Chip described the perceptions. How when we say things are big, in relative to what? It could be as large as an elephant in a cage or as big as the size of a cell but under a microscope. All of the perceptions and how we make it is different depths, shapes, sizes, or positions.

The one thing of The Cheese Monkey I did not agree with was that the way he went about describing the audience as viruses and  the enemy. Also I disliked how he described dimensions. It made it nearly impossible to me to understand how he was trying to describe the differences with shapes and lines.

In The Heresy Zone Defense I really appreciated how Dave Hickey Had first had experience with the Julius Erving miraculous shot. Also I agree that changing rules will always help keep things from getting boring. Just like in sports, rules were just changed in the NFL and just like sports life needs to have rules changed constantly because the only thing that is constant is change.

I do not agree with Naismith's thought that basketball got coaches no matte what because without coaches players would not  learn about their mistakes or get a different point of view on points of the game without them. Also he said that with out basketball gyms there would be no programs, I am sure that basketball was started from people throwing or shooting a ball through a ring or even a basket. I know at home when I was a kid my brother and I made our own BASKETball court in our hallway with a clothes basket that we cut the bottom off and we shot things through it and played against one another. Lastly it really bothers me that Naismith says the game is not beautiful or brave anymore. Yes, there are many parts that are not like the greediness and cockiness that almost every professional player has. But there are many young kids who made a name for themselves and are true to their roots.

Just saying a little something

My name is Tyler King. I am a third year transfer student from Akron. My major is Pharmaceutical Science. I am originally from the Cleveland area. One interesting thing about me is when I was growing up I never wanted to be a Buckeye. I was a Miami Hurricanes fan for as long as I can remember, and have no reason for cheering for them. I visited here last year and was in awe on how great it was here. As soon as I got back to my home I started the process of transferring here and it did not take long for me to find out I got in. Now that I am in here I would never change my mind.
